This has been a really surprising week running. Saturday I ran a pretty good 10 mile race. Sunday, I ran 7+ miles on a very tough trail that literally involved some climbing. Monday, I did 90 minutes on the Octane. Tuesday I did a workout and actually ran pretty well considering how sore I was. Then lastnight, I run 8 miles in 51:06. Can't explain it really. 6:23 pace average with the last 1.5 miles in 8:58. Of course, tonight, I struggled for the first 5 miles of my 8 mile run, then was able to actually hold 7 minute pace the last three miles. I ran a part of the course of Saturday's Swamp Stomp race. It is a race in a local park that has about 75% trails and is really muddy. We're supposed to get about an inch of rain tonight and tomorrow, so the course will be in pretty crappy condition on some parts.
Tonight, we didn't have the usual Pizza and Survivor. Instead, it was Subway. Tomorrow is Kourtney's 14th birthday party, so it will be a house full of girls with Pizza, cake and ice cream. Then Saturday, it's Spaghetti dinner/birthday party at Mariah's grandma's house. Ami got voted off of Survivor tonight. She took it pretty hard. So, Erik, the former Cross Country runner hangs on for another couple of days.
Work was really frustrating today. Lots of stupid stuff. There is too much to do and I just can't spend time on small things that others need. I just can't do it. I have to stick to my priorities. But if I don't, then I have to stay up until midnight or later finishing up the things I "have" to finish. I can't keep going to work on just 5 hours of sleep. I just can't be available to everyone all the time. I've always gone out of my way to help everyone in the best interest of "the team". But, when that starts to impact my home life and starts to wear me down, I gotta think about me and my family, my "home" team. It'd be nice to have another person hired in, but that will never happen. The only way that my department will hire another DBA is if I leave the company.
Been listening to Feist the last couple of days. Concert is next Friday evening.
S'well. Time to get on the laptop and dial in to work.
Work really had me exhausted today. Worked until just about midnight last night, then got called at 3:30, so I was dragging ass all day at work. When I got home, I didn't feel like running at all and took about a 45 minute nap. By 10 o'clock, the itchiness to go run caught up to me. My left knee is a little tender, so I opted for the Octane for 76 minutes. Not too bad. Still a little tired. Probably doesn't help that I've run 62 miles in the last 8 days. It is supposed to snow overnight and tomorrow, so that is going to throw a wrench in the training again. I've got to get in a midweek workout this week. I've missed a midweek speedwork session about 4 weeks in a row now. About mid-March is when I'll really need to start working on getting that 6:06 pace down pat. Tomorrow the new Metric Live DVD comes out, so I'll probably pick that up before I take Kourtney to soccer practice. Thursday will be her first outdoor practice for the upcoming Spring season. That'll be interesting, since it'll be cold, and the sun still sets pretty early. Time to head to bed 'cause I'm soooo dead.
OK, brief, but I have stuff I gotta get down. Running is going well. I am really getting sore. Sacrum appears to no longer be a limiting factor. Work is still busy. We're having dinner at Mariah's grandma's tonight. It will be interesting because our ex-sister-in-law for some reason feels like she's still part of the family and wants to come as well. She has done a lot burning bridges over the last 12 years. It's going to be a very awkward and uncomfortable situation. It is going to get very cold this weekend. It's going to suck... I'm finding myself having to wash running clothes everyday now since I've only got one set of tights and running pants. NFL playoffs should be interesting this weekend. They're calling for a high of 7 degrees at the Frozen Tundra.
I'm tired and a little irked tonight. I couldn't run today. Somehow, don't know how, but I hurt my back in between my shoulder blades such that I was up almost all night, and of course, I got called at 5:15 this morning... So, I could barely move all day. I can't bend my head down and move certain ways. It's better than it was. Mariah says that I got it from playing Guitar Hero 3. Today was a perfect day to run. Just a slight mist and 47 degrees. Dammit. I really, really needed to get in 6+ today so I could run 3 tomorrow before my 6x1 mile workout on Saturday. So, body permitting, I'll run 3 miles tomorrow during lunch and try not to haul ass with my fresh legs because that could compromise my objectives for Saturday's workout... I hate getting my easy days and hard days out of sync. I was very tired at work all day today with the lack of sleep. I'll be heading to bed early tonight.
So...... Will Led Zeppelin tour in 2008? Can you say, HELLO??? I would find a way to get a ticket. It'll probably be done via a lottery because I imagine that demand will be pretty high. I sure hope they make it happen. Looking forward to the NFL playoffs this weekend. Hopefully the Colts don't give the game away to the Chargers again. Adam Vinateri should be perfect being indoors and all and not repeat his last effort against the Chargers.
I'm really dragging today. Work and lack of sleep (due to work) has finally caught up to me. I ran a pretty decent run Tuesday in the pouring down rain. Wednesday was supposed to be a "check and feel" type of run, where I wanted to run at least one mile in 6:15. Well... It was all I could do to muster up a 6:28 mile. My whole body was just totally shot and tired. Sucks. I've got a race in less than 36 hours and I feel like this? All I hope is that I don't get called tonight... And it's looking like it's going to snow on Saturday, so that'll throw in another element to the race, which will affect everyone anyway. Snow I can deal with, blustery winds...... eek. My main concern will be the 90 minute drive home from Carmel that could easily turn into 2+ hours if the snow hits as forecasted. S'well. Today, we played Rayman Rabbids 2. It is hilarious. I missed the Office tonight because our DVR didn't record it when Survivor was on. My man Todd is still hanging in there. And....... I'm asleep.....
Rush got nominated for a Grammy this year for the fourth time in their career, and once again, it's for an instrumental. And Feist has been nominated for 4 Grammys! Her single 1, 2, 3, 4 has been nominated. It's a little unfortunate because that's not even the best song on the album. S'well. Maybe she'll be invited to play on the Grammys! I have been really beat up this week. More so today than Wednesday or Thursday. I haven't run since our progression run on Tuesday. Lastnight at Mariah's grandma's I suddenly had a sharp pain in my left foot that took a while to go away and now today it's sore... Looks like my guy Todd narrowly escaped again this week. Don't know how much longer he'll last. Meanwhile, Denise is still in there for me in Mariah's office pool. Today we had our first snow. About 2 inches. I'm really nervous about trying to run in the snow after last winter's injury... Now, it's off to work to save the world. Actually, to make more shiny plastic circles, or DVDs to the consumer market. Oh real nice. It's cold and snowy outside, and they decide to play "In The Summertime" from Mungo Jerry on Music Choice. 8 more days until my race. I'm on call next week, so hopefully, I don't get called to much in the middle of the night. Ch,ch-chhhh.
Today's run was completely disgusting. My legs are still really dead. I mean, it's been since Tuesday since I last ran. I tried to run an "easy" three miles during lunch today and really struggled to maintain 7:00 pace. I was pretty pissed when I got back home. Jumped in the shower and headed back to work. Work was a little rough this week. Nothing really pissing me off, but just too much to do. I was up until midnight two nights in a row working, then got called at 3:30 this morning for an hour, and now, I've just got called again. I am so tired... It's a wonder I feel so crappy when I try to run. Now.
This evening was a good evening. Kourtney had her snowball dance tonight. She and her three girlfriends were gorgeous. We got a lot of good pictures of them. So, tonight, Austin went to grandma's while Mariah and I did some more Christmas shopping. We finally found the iceCoaster for Austin, and picked up Hairspray for Kourtney. I found something for myself as well. I can't have it until Christmas though. AC/DC's Plugged In DVD Set and Incubus's new DVD Look Alive (or something like that). Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii must've gotten pushed back again because I haven't seen it anywhere. Then it was Baskin Robbins on the way to Mariah's mom's to get Austin.
It's funny, I played "The Final Countdown" by Europe tonight and Austin was freaking out. It's been used in the commercials for the "Mario and Sonic at the Olympics" for the Wii over the past couple of weeks.
So tomorrow it's some speedwork with Jacki at Rose-Hulman. Hope my legs feel better tomorrow. I downloaded my applications for the "12 Ks of Christmas" in Carmel, December 15th and "The Hangover Classic" 10 Miler in Louisville New Year's Day. I asked my boss if we were going to have to work on December 31st, or January 1st (for database maintenance) and he said he didn't know which day yet, but it didn't really matter. So, I think I'll be able to leave town. It'll be nice to run the Louisville race again, as it's been 11 years since the last time I ran that one. So today's run left me feeling disgusted at first, but we'll see how tomorrow goes.
OK, I've resolved my problem at work. I'm heading to bed. Nahnoo Nahnoo
When I first moved to Germany (for the second time) in 1977, one thing that I clearly remember hearing on the radio was a show called "Return of the Chickenman." So, tonight, "Pizza and Survivor Night" (no pizza tonight though, explanation later), "Chicken" ends up being the first guy voted off Survivor China. The p.g. chick sure cracked in a hurry. Keep it together, it's only three days in. This season looks like it's going to be pretty cool. In Mariah's office pool, I've got Denise the Lunch Lady, and at my work, I've got Todd, the gay mormon (how would that work anyway?) I'm getting fired up for My Name Is Earl and The Office. The Office is by far my favorite comedy on TV. I missed the entire last season because we had the "one tuner" satellite. So The Office gave way to Survivor last season. Tonight I ran about 5.5 miles for the second time this week. Here I am actually sitting on the couch, completely pain free. My legs are shot to shit today, but I ran a 5K on Saturday, a strong 7 miles on Sunday, 5.5 on Tuesday and 5.5 tonight. That's about 23 miles in 5 days. No Pizza tonight though. Austin is downright sick with a pretty nasty fever. Work has been pretty rough this week. Had to actually go in twice this week at three am and then again at 1 am yesterday since my VPN quit working on my desktop PC. I've had to leave my laptop at work for the last three days. I checked it tonight, and my laptop can still get into work, so that's a relief. I think I did something to my Desktop when I was spyware housekeeping this week. That's the only thing that I can think of.
Has anyone ever noticed that some of these postings actually get posted twice? I'm not sure how it happens. Must be a bug. Anyway, another tough day at work. Lots of people stressed and freaking out. Doesn't make things very easy for me. I do a pretty good job at keeping my cool, at least toward people. I do admit, I've had some run ins with my boss that are not characteristic of me. I know at the time, he took some of it personally, which he probably should have. That was a couple of years ago, and we work pretty well together nowadays. Anyway, things have not been easy for everyone lately. Lots of incidents of downtime and problems with our software applications that we maintain. I've been able to run. I ran 6 miles Sunday, 3 on Monday and 6 on Tuesday. I haven't run or done the Octane since, since I was in so much pain on Wednesday. Sharp severe pain that wasn't at the original site of my injury. So I told myself, I'm not running or riding the Octane for 3 days, and I'm going to attempt to run the Marshall Classic 5K Saturday. It will break a streak I'm sure. That streak is that every time that I have run that race, I've either finished 2nd or 3rd. Every time! And it was always in the last half mile that I blew the lead. Damn my slow kick. So this weekend, I probably won't be in the top 3, so the streak will be over. Anyway, I hope I do well. This has been a shaky week and I need some encouragement.
Today Austin had his first soccer game. His team won 5-3. Pretty good game. Kourtney's team had an away game and rebounded well with a 7-2 victory. Federer won his 4th straight US Open title in straight sets. I swear those Coors Light commercials are so stupid. I overdid it today on running. I ran a really slow 6 miles. Legs were pretty dead. I didn't have any pain at all during the run, but now, 9 hours later, it hurts when I sit on the couch. So, I have to sit on the floor instead. I've got a lot going on at work tomorrow. I didn't get to watch any football games today. I'm watching NY Giants at Dallas. Not real impressed... Not much else to say...
