This has been a really surprising week running. Saturday I ran a pretty good 10 mile race. Sunday, I ran 7+ miles on a very tough trail that literally involved some climbing. Monday, I did 90 minutes on the Octane. Tuesday I did a workout and actually ran pretty well considering how sore I was. Then lastnight, I run 8 miles in 51:06. Can't explain it really. 6:23 pace average with the last 1.5 miles in 8:58. Of course, tonight, I struggled for the first 5 miles of my 8 mile run, then was able to actually hold 7 minute pace the last three miles. I ran a part of the course of Saturday's Swamp Stomp race. It is a race in a local park that has about 75% trails and is really muddy. We're supposed to get about an inch of rain tonight and tomorrow, so the course will be in pretty crappy condition on some parts.
Tonight, we didn't have the usual Pizza and Survivor. Instead, it was Subway. Tomorrow is Kourtney's 14th birthday party, so it will be a house full of girls with Pizza, cake and ice cream. Then Saturday, it's Spaghetti dinner/birthday party at Mariah's grandma's house. Ami got voted off of Survivor tonight. She took it pretty hard. So, Erik, the former Cross Country runner hangs on for another couple of days.
Work was really frustrating today. Lots of stupid stuff. There is too much to do and I just can't spend time on small things that others need. I just can't do it. I have to stick to my priorities. But if I don't, then I have to stay up until midnight or later finishing up the things I "have" to finish. I can't keep going to work on just 5 hours of sleep. I just can't be available to everyone all the time. I've always gone out of my way to help everyone in the best interest of "the team". But, when that starts to impact my home life and starts to wear me down, I gotta think about me and my family, my "home" team. It'd be nice to have another person hired in, but that will never happen. The only way that my department will hire another DBA is if I leave the company.
Been listening to Feist the last couple of days. Concert is next Friday evening.
S'well. Time to get on the laptop and dial in to work.
Wow. Talk about totally spent. Yesterday was another crappy weather Tuesday. But I ran. 59 degrees, pouring down rain. Roads flooding and all. So, running in heavy rain soaked shoes and two layers and a windbreaker that weighed about as much as me with all that rain soaked in. But, I actually ran really well. I hit 6:40 to 7:00 pace the whole way easy, 8.5 miles. So, today, I was actually pretty sore from pounding with the heavy water soaked shoes. I decided I was going to take the day off. But, tonight after Survivor, I checked outside and it was 40 degrees with no wind. It was actually supposed to be low 30s with 10 to 20 mph N wind. So, I started out not too bad, relaxed (full from Pizza Hut, ugh), first mile in 7:20, then my legs just went completely dead. I struggled to run the next half mile in 4:00. I had intended to run 6.5 via my Collett Park loop. But, I turned around early and headed back home. It took me 13:25 to run the 1.5 miles home! It was all I could do to jog back. Legs are feeling completely beat up and I'm completely drained. I'll have to take it easy tomorrow and do my workout on Friday with Jeff.
Survivor was OK tonight. No real drama. Kathy quit, Tracy got voted out.
Today I've got the day off from work. I'll keep my mind off of it and not dial in and check my e-mail. I've got a lot of stuff to do today. I ate lunch with Austin, I've already run 6 miles this morning, need to get my hair cut, do the dishes, laundry (running clothes and towels!), get the wristband on my watch replaced, take Kourtney to her MRI.
I've managed to run 47 miles in the last 6 days. If I count my 90 minute workout on the Octane on Tuesday, I'd equate that to about 9 miles, giving me about 56 miles of running. Does that count? My body seems to be holding up pretty well. And I'm maintaining hydration levels and energy levels pretty well. And it's finally starting to get warm! This morning it was 36 with overnight snow melting. 50+ degrees on Sunday. It will be nice to run 13-15 miles without having three layers, tights and running pants on.
Wii finally got our Wii shipped off to get it fixed. They told us it should take about a week for the whole thing, delivery there, repair and delivery back. Now if it's gone for 6 weeks or some sh*t like that, I'll be pissed. I'll sick my wife on them. Meanwhile, we've brought out Pikmin again for the GameCube. Pikmin was one of the first games that we bought for the GameCube.
After watching "Across The Universe" this past weekend makes me think I need to listen to some of my Beatles albums.
Survivor was really cool lastnight. Mikey B got voted off. That is hilarious. Ozzy found the hidden immunity idol and fabricated a "fake" idol and place it in the original location.. That will be so funny if someone finds it and tries to play it. Ozzy is for real. I finished second in our Office Pool with him a couple of seasons ago. $50 I think. I'm routing for him and the cross country runner dude. This season I have Joel, which I like the guy. The emotional wreck people need to go though. The ones that are spent really need to be sent home, as they bring down morale and overall team strength. Although it looks like the tribes are going to be "mixed" in the next episode.
Looks like Iron Maiden isn't going to be coming this way. They're hitting all the big stadium cities. Can't really blame 'em as they always sell out the stadiums. S'well, maybe I could win a contest or something. Maybe they'll have a DVD of it and have it out by Christmas. Rush's new Live CD is due out April 8th, while their Live DVD is supposedly due out in August, but we know how that goes.
Kourtney has her first outdoor season soccer practice tomorrow. Hopefully she doesn't have anything seriously wrong with her knee. They'll have some nice weather tomorrow. Their first game is an away game in Fishers Indiana on March 15th. I have a race that morning on the East side of Indy at Warren Central HS, so following the race, we can head up to Fishers. Going to have to rent my hotel room for the Papa John's 10 Miler in Louisville March 29th.
Looks like the kids are out of school tomorrow. About an inch of snow on the ground with some more on the way along with some ice. So, they'll have fun in the snow. I'll still have to go to work though. S'well. My race on Saturday is in downtown Indianapolis, so the roads should be clear. Temps in the upper 20s with a slight breeze should be tolerable. Took today off from running. Going to run light tomorrow. I'm ready for warmer weather. Just about three more weeks. Kourtney is supposed to have practice tomorrow night. We'll see if it holds since school got canceled.
I love my new Metric DVD, but I'm disappointed that they didn't include the song "Empty" in the release. The original concert was 90 minutes, but the DVD is only 67 minutes. In the Title Screen, they play a snippet of "Empty", although it's not in the set. Hopefully, they'll be releasing a new album this year as "Live It Out" was released in 2005.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs are apparantly in the studio working on a follow-up to "Show Your Bones" ("IsIs" doesn't really count since it was an EP).
The Wii is still out of commission. We're still waiting on a shipping label from the place we're supposed to ship it to. Now I'm going to get rusty at Guitar Hero III.
Survivor was pretty cool tonight. I was a little surprised that Yao-Man went home. But it's interesting that both tribes are on the brink of collapse and that everything is really up in the air as far as alliances go. And of course, Pizza Hut.
I almost didn't get a run in tonight. Around 4 this afternoon, I started feeling really crappy. I was pissed because I "reeely" needed to get a good run in today. I got off of work at 5 and went home and went to bed for an hour and a half, ate dinner with the family. Turns out, I ran w/ Jeff, Jacki and Josh in town. I was so full from dinner, but I just had to get a run in. I'm glad I did. A semi-quick 8 miles in 57 minutes. It sure got cold though. 12 degrees when we finished. So, tomorrow off, probably 15 minutes on the Octane to stay loose. Then pre-race warmup routine on Friday, then race on Saturday. Looks like we're supposed to get some sort of snow though on Friday. Damn...
Pizza and Survivor tomorrow night. Tomorrow is my dad's birthday. I've got to call him before we go to "Bingo for Books".
I really should be getting to bed. I have to get up at 2:45 am for work tomorrow morning. I haven't been to bed before midnight but once since Christmas. I'm watching the OSU/LSU game. Don't know why. I've never gotten into college football before. Work was a little tiring today, trying to catch up on things. That's what happens when you take a couple of vacation days. Things pile up. S'well. Managed to do 40 minutes on the Octane today during lunch. The legs are a little dead from Saturday and Sunday's runs. I've got a hill workout slated for tomorrow evening. I should be recovered pretty well by then. Weather was really crazy today. New record high of 67 in Terre Haute. Of course, it always comes with strong winds when it warms up in January. Tomorrow is going to be very windy with temperatures falling after sundown. I've got a couple of races slated for February and the beginning of April, but I'm still looking for a race for mid March, like a 10K or 15K. Looks like American Idol is ready to fire up again. Can't say that I'm really all that thrilled about it. I am looking forward to the new Survivor in February.
Well, at least my man Todd is the Sole Survivor. So, now I've won the Survivor Pool at work. Hot damn!!! Today I struggled 99 minutes on the Octane while I watched my struggling Indianapolis Colts. It is soooooo hard to do the Octane for that long when you've gotten out of that mindset. I am pretty shot from yesterday's race. I'm a little worried tonight though, after moving a certain way tonight lifting a laundry basket, I felt a sharp twinge in my ischium and tailbone. Pain only lasted for about 5 minutes, but... scary... Gotta do some Christmas shopping this week.
This has been a tough week running. I ran 20 miles over the weekend and then did 800m repeats on Tuesday and I am completely beat up. I managed to do 35 minutes on the Octane today. My left knee cap is really tender and a lot of irritation in my entire pelvic area. It's frustrating that I'm trying to resume training at a level that I feel I need to be at, but it's just going to take more time... This has been a rough week work wise. It's getting to be a little too much to juggle at some times. S'well. Survivor was a little disappointing tonight, I was hoping James wouldn't fall for getting voted off. But, my Office Pool guy Todd is still in it and Mariah's office pool Denise is still in. Looks like the Live Rush DVD is in the works. Hopefully, they'll release it in the spring instead of waiting for the 2008 tour to finish. And Feist is going to be on MTV Unplugged!!! HS! I hope they release that on DVD as well. I finished watching "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World" today. It's a really funny movie. The movie "Rat Race" in 2001 was kind of a remake of it.
What a creative title, eh?
Actually, the title was going to be called Monster Workout to describe the workout Jeff, Tom and I ran Tuesday night. It was a really tough track workout. Didn't really go very far, but it was very intense. It was 2x800m, 2x400m and 2x200m. I ran them the fastest I've run in a long time, and it was so awesome to be able to push so hard. But the Monster Hospital is from the Canadian group Metric. I managed to do a light workout on the Octane yesterday. Tonight, I actually ran a good 5+ miles. 2 of the middle miles were 6:24 and 6:25. Didn't really feel all that tough energy wise, just the legs are so sore. Had some piriformis muscle soreness and tightness though throughout. Got to be careful. I did realize though, now that it's dark so damn early, I can't run on the trails in the woods, especially since they're covered with leaves. Work has been a little rough this week. Some weird problems going on with our systems. On-Call wise, it was a pretty light week until lastnight. Got called late evening, then 2:30, then 4:30.
Survivor was pretty cool tonight. I was hoping that PG wouldn't get immunity. Oh well. She's got the nerve though blaming James for why they lost. Did she forget that she actually "threw" a challenge? Hello? My guy Todd (who I have through our office pool) is still hanging in there, although I have a feeling he's going to get himself in trouble. I can't wait to see The Office tonight. I've DVR'd it, but Kourtney's staying up past bedtime to watch CSI.
Break Me Off A Piece Of That Kit Kat Bar. The Office was pretty cool tonight. You know that little Dunder Mifflin Ad was actually pretty cool. I have a splitting headache. Work totally sucked today. We sure do some stupid stuff, I'm telling you. I am soooo tired and I just can't work anymore tonight. I'm totally burnt. But, we still had "Pizza and Survivor" tonight. Survivor was pretty cool tonight. Looks like plans are falling through all over the place. Kinda funny. And I had a good run tonight with Jeff. And he helped me run Kourtney's soccer team through a short workout this evening. I think they took it pretty well. They didn't run as hard as I would have like them too, but I don't think they've ever done anything like that before. Plus, I don't know how hard they practiced (we did this little workout at the end of their practice). Just try to keep them a little sharp and in shape through their tournament. Austin is already asking to stop by Circuit City to see if a certain game is out yet. We have to hold him off until Christmas. That's the thing that sucks about video game releases. There are 5 titles being released between now and November 13th. Austin is so used to buying a game the day it comes out, he's going to expect to be able to buy another one on November 13th, but we have to save up for Christmas. It's going to be tricky. Today was the coolest day yet running wise. It'll take some getting used to.
