I logged in a pretty productive 43 miles this week. I ran 5 days and did the Octane two days (60 minutes each). The weather has been really cold the last two days. This morning when we ran, it was 6 degrees, rising to probably about 12 by the time we finished nearly 15 miles. At least it was sunny out. Winds were a little tough at times. Legs pretty tired today. I have a 5K race this coming Saturday, which I'm going to train through, and use the week of January 28th to prepare for a key 7 mile race. I'll be glad when we get some warmer weather. Even 32 degrees at this point would be nice to run in. I'd like to be over 50 miles a week come March 1st.
New England Patriots beat the San Diego Chargers. Wasn't pretty, but at least San Diego showed why they were in the AFC Championship. We'll see how the Packers and Giants game goes. It is -1 on the field. That field looks totally frozen!
I broke out Rush's "Snakes and Arrows", and "Moving Pictures" CD today. Time to check in with work again real quick.
The week is finally over but I've got a lot of work to do over the weekend for work. It's going to get really cold tomorrow. Good for staying inside and making a pot of stew or chili. Of course, I'm going to run tomorrow. That's a given. I'm looking forward to getting another quality workout in tomorrow. I'm getting more confident and starting to handle the mileage a little better. Looks like I'll end up with about 45 for the week. Next week will probably be scaled back depending on how my body handles tomorrow's run and Sunday's long run.
Kourtney has an indoor soccer game tomorrow. Those games are fun to watch. They're so fast. She's gone to the movie tonight with some of her friends. Then she's going on a shopping spree party for one of her friends' birthday. Looking forward to the NFL playoffs this weekend, even though the Colts are gone...
Mariah has now lost 15 pounds since New Year's Day. All from WW and 30-45 minutes on the Octane 5-6 days a week. I'm really proud of her. She's still a little shaky and weary on her confidence though. The last time she lost a lot of weight, she came to a screeching halt one day and couldn't lose another pound.
I'm recording this Judas Priest album off of LP, and I'm having a hard time getting into it. Just not "British Steel"... Probably going to record Blue Oyster Cult next. Plus!!! New Rush news!!! Rush is touring again in 2008 and will be in Indy (Noblesville) June 26th. If I go, it'll be the second time that I will have seen them twice in one tour. The last time I doubled was the "Roll The Bones" tour in 1991-1992. I've seen them every tour since "Hold Your Fire". Matter of fact, March 2 will be exactly 20 years since the first time I'd seen them. Freshman year in college. Anyway, rumours that they're going to change up the setlist a little bit. It was pretty "diverse" when I saw them back in August. I'm looking forward to it. Wonder when they're going to release the live DVD they recorded in Rotterdam last fall. Hmm... Three more weeks until Metric's new DVD comes out. A couple more weeks before Feist will be on the Grammy's. Hopefully she'll play "I Feel It All" instead of "1,2,3,4". I love her music. Hopefully the record company doesn't make her go Gwen Stefani or Nelly Furtado on us.
Song stuck in my head from our run tonight, "I Come From The Water" by The Toadies. May it get stuck in yours.
OK, brief, but I have stuff I gotta get down. Running is going well. I am really getting sore. Sacrum appears to no longer be a limiting factor. Work is still busy. We're having dinner at Mariah's grandma's tonight. It will be interesting because our ex-sister-in-law for some reason feels like she's still part of the family and wants to come as well. She has done a lot burning bridges over the last 12 years. It's going to be a very awkward and uncomfortable situation. It is going to get very cold this weekend. It's going to suck... I'm finding myself having to wash running clothes everyday now since I've only got one set of tights and running pants. NFL playoffs should be interesting this weekend. They're calling for a high of 7 degrees at the Frozen Tundra.
Austin and I completed our assembly of a Lego Nintendo Wii. Pictures to follow once Mariah's camera is charged. Took a while. Pretty much ran out of Legos. Today I ran 15+ miles with Jacki in which I struggled. I was pretty sore from yesterday's workout. Both hip flexors are really sore and the hamstrings are tight. My arms and pecs are even sore from yesterday. I am still really excited about yesterday's results. I may jump into a local 5K here in a couple of weeks. It's kind of a low-key, $6, no T-Shirt race, but it's a good mid-winter workout. Right now it's looking like I'm going to miss a key race in my training. It is a competitive 7 mile race north of Indianapolis toward the end of February and it's looking like I may have to work that day. Hopefully we can work something out. I am really pleased with my training progress, although I'm still not up to my standard of training just yet. I did manage to squeak in 32 miles this week.
A neighbor of mine lent me some of his LPs for me to record. A lot of them that I had on tape years back that I've since got rid of. So, that'll be a good project over the next couple of weeks. There are about 8 of them that I'm wanting to record. And!!! Mariah got me Season 3 of The Office on DVD today. I can't wait to watch it. I missed all of season three due to Survivor being in the same time slot and lack of DVR at the time. And the Colts couldn't pull it off today. S'well. There will be a new champion this year. The NYG are going to the NFC Championship, so there is still the possibility that a Manning will be in the Super Bowl this year.
Lastnight Mariah and I went to a Comedy Show with another couple. We don't get the occasion to go out with another couple very often, so it was a treat. The show was Donnie Baker and the Pork Pistols. Pretty raunchy show, but it was to be expected. I thought the whole show was pretty hilarious. The only thing bad about it, was I had kind of a scare lastnight. I was standing in line at the bar getting a drink for Mariah and M, and I had a mild seizure. Not the grand mal kind. Just the whole aura, dizziness, adrenaline rush, fear and breaking into a sweat kind. I haven't had one like that in a couple of years, and last had a grand mal September 11, 2001. 9/11 really hit home to me because it brought back the reality that I face after the Marine barracks were bombed in Lebanon in 1983 when I lived in Naples Italy. We were on edge during that period for a while. Terrorism threat was very real. So, 9/11 may have been a contributing factor that day to have a seizure. I usually have seizures when I don't take my medicine right, which was the case this week, or if I have severe lack of sleep or a large amount of stress. This week, with work, I've missed quite a bit of sleep, working late, getting called in the middle of the night. Then the whole thing with my back Thursday keeping me up most of the night, I guess it all caught up to me. So, pretty scary. Need to take my medicine right. I've been lacking some order and discipline in my life lately. Part of it has to do with my job, the helpless feeling you get when there's just so much to do, it's easy to lose focus, and with that goes the discipline and dedication. So, looks like work is going to get even more hectic over the next four weeks or so. Hopefully it'll lighten up after that. But, I slept in until 10 this morning! I felt totally crappy and had a terrible headache. That usually happens after I have a seizure, totally drains me. But today, I ran a really awesome workout. Started out with a headache, and feeling a little crappy. But after an easy warmup, I felt better. The weather was totally awesome today! It is sunny and lower 40s, although breezy. I ran mile repeats with Jacki and Mike. I ran really well. I expected to run lower 6:00s, but ended up with 6:17,5:54,5:38 and 5:34. We were slated to do 6, but we ran them a little too hard, so we ended up with 4. It's hard to hold back though if you're legs are feeling fresh. The pain I felt in my left sacrum earlier this week showed up briefly during the warmup, but went away pretty quick after that. The "cooldown" was pretty quick, 6:30 pace the last two miles. Once we were done running, I no longer had the headache. So, if you're ever wanting to get rid of that nasty dull headache, go out and run hard and get that blood pumping! Tomorrow, 15 miles slated. Mariah said it's supposed to snow. Eek! Looks like the Greenbay Packers are trying to give the game away. 1:09 into the game, and they've fumbled and lost the ball twice. I know it's cold, but c'mon. It's the playoffs. Gotta hold onto that ball.
I'm tired and a little irked tonight. I couldn't run today. Somehow, don't know how, but I hurt my back in between my shoulder blades such that I was up almost all night, and of course, I got called at 5:15 this morning... So, I could barely move all day. I can't bend my head down and move certain ways. It's better than it was. Mariah says that I got it from playing Guitar Hero 3. Today was a perfect day to run. Just a slight mist and 47 degrees. Dammit. I really, really needed to get in 6+ today so I could run 3 tomorrow before my 6x1 mile workout on Saturday. So, body permitting, I'll run 3 miles tomorrow during lunch and try not to haul ass with my fresh legs because that could compromise my objectives for Saturday's workout... I hate getting my easy days and hard days out of sync. I was very tired at work all day today with the lack of sleep. I'll be heading to bed early tonight.
So...... Will Led Zeppelin tour in 2008? Can you say, HELLO??? I would find a way to get a ticket. It'll probably be done via a lottery because I imagine that demand will be pretty high. I sure hope they make it happen. Looking forward to the NFL playoffs this weekend. Hopefully the Colts don't give the game away to the Chargers again. Adam Vinateri should be perfect being indoors and all and not repeat his last effort against the Chargers.
Finally! I made it 15 miles today w/ Jacki and Dave. Ran roughly 7:15 pace the whole way with a couple of 7 minute miles in there. Very warm today, 53 and breezy. I sweat like crazy and my legs are a little muddy from the rain soaked trails. Definitely a tough run. Struggled a little between 12 and 14 miles. Most of the way, I had "Redefine" from Incubus stuck in my head. I am really glad I made it that far. Pretty important run, especially if I want to run 6:20 or less for a half marathon. So, now I'm rehydrating, playing Battleship with Austin and watching the NYG and TB game. Kourtney and Mariah are shopping at Kohl's and JC Penney with Christmas gift cards. Kids go back to school tomorrow. I go back to work tomorrow. Not really looking forward to it. Things tend to pile up while you're gone, so there will be catching up and sifting through three days worth of email. S'well. For the week I ended up with 43 miles. That's the most I've run in one week since I got hurt last February.
Looks like the TB Bucaneers are making a come back. But, there's less than 4 minutes left, a little too late.
Go Colts. If San Diego wins tonight, it will be Bolts vs. Colts next week.
Getting ready to head out to do 12-13 miles (maybe even 15). It's really warm and windy. It's going to be nice to run with just one shirt on. Looks like the Colts are going to go up against Jacksonville if Tennessee beats the Chargers. I think the Colts will have difficulty with both the Chargers and the Jaguars since both teams may be able to run against them. I have a feeling if the Colts meet the Patriots in the AFC Championship (if I have it right), that it may be considered the actual Superbowl. Hmm... But, out the door to run!
Today Kourtney had an indoor soccer match in which her team won 13-1. She scored two goals and had one assist. It had been a while since the team had been together, so that was good. After the soccer game I went and ran a speed workout session with Jacki and ran really well. I started out feeling really tired from this past week, but the last 10 minutes, I felt really strong. So, I am really pumped up about the workout. I had a really tough 60 minutes on the Octane yesterday, really struggled. The plan tomorrow is to get in at least 90 minutes. If I can do that, I'll end up with 40 miles for the week, and it will be the first time since my injury that I ran 5 days in one week. So, here in a couple of weeks, I think I'll be able to assume some sort of structured training schedule. The weather is perfect right now for running. Today it was 41, tomorrow, it's supposed to be 53 with light rain.
Tonight, we all ate roast chicken and vegetable soup at Mariah's grandma's with Raspberry Cobbler and Upside Down Pineapple Cake for desert. The Seattle/Washington game wasn't all that great. Let's hope that the Jaguars/Steelers game is better. I think it will be.
Still waiting for the overall results from the Hangover Classic to be posted on the Cherokee Road Runners website. I'm guessing that I finished between 20th and 25th place. Hopefully we'll know in a couple of days. Next up is the Ground Hog 7 on February 3rd, then the Polar Bear 5 Mile race on February 23rd. Last year's Polar Bear 5 was my breakthrough race, the day before I got injured. I've got 7 weeks to go for that one.
Wow, tonight it seems we're having a Guitar Hero Fest here tonight. Kourtney's got two friends over (C and A) and our nephew JL is here. Haven't really done much today. A little around the house. Spent about two hours dialed in to work. Ran an easy 6 miles this morning. Tapering for Tuesday's race. Mariah bought some alcohol today for New Years, light stuff, no beer. Of course, I won't be drinking! I'll be leaving the house at 5:30 for the 3+ hour trip to Louisville for the race. The weather looks like it's going to be really cold and windy. Damn...
I still need to check out my new Neil Young DVD and Nelly Furtado DVD. I watched the Heart Dreamboat Annie DVD again. Man is it good.
Austin and I broke out his iCoaster today. It is pretty cool. So........ Will NE Patriots go 16-0? We'll see.
