Today Mariah and I made our last car payment on our 2005 Kia Sorrento. Finally!!! We are free of a car payment! What a load off. And it also helps that we got a small bonus from work today as well.
To the good stuff. I had an excellent week running. I've only got in 35 miles so far this week, but it's been good. I took Sunday completely off. I ran a recovery run on Monday, a tempo run on Tuesday, recovery run Wednesday, another tempo run on Thursday (8 miles in 52:16 with the last mile in 5:57, with a tail wind, but hey). Then a good 8 miles easy tonight. And all with doing the Octane during lunch each day. Tomorrow we leave for Kourtney's soccer tournament. I will attempt to do a speedwork session at one of the local high schools and use my new racing flats.
Also this week, my 1994 Toyota Corolla (which we've had paid off for 8 years now, yes!) rolled over to 140,000 miles.
Lastnight Erik totally blew it on Survivor. Dumb ass. Sorry Erik. I was really rooting for you. S'well.
Here's a pic of me on the Speedway around the 7 mile mark at the Mini
Lastnight Kourtney and I watched probably the the best movie I've seen in a long time. It is a fictional movie that is set in the Vietnam Era in the United States. It did have real events such as the 12th Street Riot in Detroit, mention of MLK's assasination, Columbia University demonstration and lots of others. But the most amazing part of the movie is that it is very Pink Floyd-ish and Tommy-ish (The Who) in which the characters sing Beatles songs or portions of Beatles songs. The characters were named after a lot of the Beatles songs. There were a total of 34 Beatles songs represented and the original score was very Pink Floyd-ish. The Beatles, Wings and John Lennon were a big thing in my household growing up. I grew up listening to what we call "Classic Rock" nowadays, basically, everything from 1967 through the early 80s. Needless to say, popular music is a very important part of my life. I like the movie so much that I'm going to go buy it when I get a chance (we rented it). It's amazing all of the clues and subtle references to Beatles songs and stuff.
Tonight I ran a tempo speed 8 miles in a really quick 51:51 with the last two miles in 12:14. And let me tell you, that sleet hitting your face with a 10 mph head wind really stings. I am supposed to do a workout tomorrow, but I just felt so good tonight even though I'm still sore from Saturday. Speedwork may have to wait until Wednesday. We'll see. Meanwhile, rehydrate, eat, and get more than the 3 1/2 hours of sleep I got lastnight. I sure still have a lot of work to do. I'm probably going to have to keep hitting the mile repeats and longer tempo stuff through the end of March. The Mini is approaching rather quickly now.
Wow, it is really sleeting freezing rain out there now. I've never seen anything like it. Both of our vehicles are now glazed like greasy donuts. And it sounds really cool. The kids will probably definitely have a two-hour delay again tomorrow.
Wow, this week turned out pretty well for running. I got in 28 miles on 4 days of running. I had an excellent workout yesterday, which I am completely sore. Today, we ran 10 miles. Had aches and kinks but generally had pretty good energy levels. I'm finally signed up for the Indy Mini. I've got four key races to help prep for it. December 15th, "The 12Ks of Christmas" 12K race in Carmel, Indiana. February 3rd, the "Groundhog 7" 7 mile race in Carmel, Indiana. March 24th, "Will Power 10K" in Indianapolis, April 1st, "Indianapolis Distance Classic" 15K Race. Got a couple of local 5Ks that I'll jump into as workouts. Today and yesterday the weather was great. Looks like it's going to get real crappy here in the next two days. So, we'll see how this week goes. Looks like the Colts pulled it off today. They really are not a very good team right now. Defensively, they're still doing really well.
Austin got a new bicycle today from his sister at his birthday party today. Nine years old now. Austin had lots of friends over today. A few of them are staying the night and are playing Super Smash Bros. (Gamecube) on the Wii. Lots of fun, and Pizza Hut Pizza. Austin's probably going to get Super Paper Mario tomorrow with his birthday money. Kourtney and I are going to Seymour tomorrow for her away game, while Mariah is taking Austin to his game here in town. It's a two hour drive away, and I shouldn't be going since I'm on call, but I've already missed two of her other away games. I'll take the laptop, but if I get called or paged and we can't find a Wi-Fi hotspot... Anyway, the Indy Mini went well today for my fellow runners. Aaron ran a PR 1:31. He was happy with that, but the 500 Club still eludes him. Meanwhile Mike Morris kept his streak alive of making the top 500. I cannot remember the last time he didn't make the top 500. Not bad for a 56 year old guy. Mike Urban as well! I haven't talked to him, but I think he ran exactly what he was wanting, a 1:23. Wow. And Michelle Blair that I work with. So much for doing a 2:30. She went 1:54! I've seen the results but I need to talk to some people to see how they "did" (how they felt they did). The new Rush CD ain't quite cutting it for me yet... Maybe it'll grow on me. Kinda strange to be feeling about that for an album from a band that I've been a fan of since 1981. Feist's new CD is not as "catchy" as "Let It Die" was, but I still like it. Haven't really had a chance to dig into Metric's "Live It Out" CD yet. Anyway, a picture of Headstone Friends, where I buy all my used LPs from and most of my CDs. Headstone's is like the closest thing I had to the West Coast when I moved here from San Francisco to go to college. It is my sanctuary. I've spent as much as an hour in there looking at records, posters, etc., while the owners, all from the "60s" era play Dylan, the Beatles, the Dead and others. The building looks like hell now. It needs a facelift. I did 100 minutes easy on the Octane today. Had a lot of irritation and pain this morning, and I got on the Octane anyway, and I've been pain free ever since. Although I've been trying to incorporate core strength training, I've kind of neglected stretching the area. I'm a very flexible person and have always taken that for granted, but with the reflexive contractions of muscles protecting the S nerves have made them very tight. So right now, I need to put focus into maintaining strength and flexibility. So, now I've got the boys trying to figure out how to whistle with tootsie roll wrappers. Funny. The cats are going apesh*t when I do it. Stupid Human Tricks.
This has been a really rough week. I've worked a lot of hours, and my boss tells me that I need to make time to get these projects done even though I'm swamped with day-to-day support. At least I've been getting to bed before midnight and I only got called once this week at 1:30 am. Tried to run a little yesterday and I'm paying for it today. It's amazing that running is so effortless, unless you've been away from it for going on 10 weeks. Turns out Paula Radcliffe has the same injury that I have. So, she's sitting out the World Championships Marathon. This is pathetic. My fingers are so used to typing shopfloor that I couldn't type Championships without slowing down... Anyway, it's too bad for the world record holder in the marathon... Good luck to all my running friends running the Indy Mini tomorrow. Looks like it's going to be humid, mid 60s and cloudy. Not all that bad really. I've got to go to Headstone's and pick up my cds tonight. I paid $3.19 a gallon for gas yesterday! It cost me $31! I've never spent that much on my tiny '94 Toyota Corolla. Thank God it gets 36 miles to the gallon. What a ripoff. So well. I guess I'll have to keep pouring money into the big Corporate Execs' pockets... Austin's birthday party is tomorrow. That is going to be a lot of fun. Kourtney's team has a chance to win their division outright with a victory Sunday at Seymour. 7 wins, no losses, 1 tie. We'll see. And can you believe Kourtney's yearbook cost $50? For middle school? Wow. No workout on the Octane today. Need to cut the grass for Austin's birthday part tomorrow, but it's raining. Austin and I planted sunflower seeds yesterday. Should be about 7-10 days if they "germinate". Survivor was no surprise lastnight. Looks like the producers tried to prolong the suspense for what was too obvious. I wasn't convinced. You know, if I was Mookie and Alex, I would have stolen Yau Man's immunity idol. Afterall, it's Survivor, right?
