Austin and I completed our assembly of a Lego Nintendo Wii. Pictures to follow once Mariah's camera is charged. Took a while. Pretty much ran out of Legos. Today I ran 15+ miles with Jacki in which I struggled. I was pretty sore from yesterday's workout. Both hip flexors are really sore and the hamstrings are tight. My arms and pecs are even sore from yesterday. I am still really excited about yesterday's results. I may jump into a local 5K here in a couple of weeks. It's kind of a low-key, $6, no T-Shirt race, but it's a good mid-winter workout. Right now it's looking like I'm going to miss a key race in my training. It is a competitive 7 mile race north of Indianapolis toward the end of February and it's looking like I may have to work that day. Hopefully we can work something out. I am really pleased with my training progress, although I'm still not up to my standard of training just yet. I did manage to squeak in 32 miles this week.
A neighbor of mine lent me some of his LPs for me to record. A lot of them that I had on tape years back that I've since got rid of. So, that'll be a good project over the next couple of weeks. There are about 8 of them that I'm wanting to record. And!!! Mariah got me Season 3 of The Office on DVD today. I can't wait to watch it. I missed all of season three due to Survivor being in the same time slot and lack of DVR at the time. And the Colts couldn't pull it off today. S'well. There will be a new champion this year. The NYG are going to the NFC Championship, so there is still the possibility that a Manning will be in the Super Bowl this year.
I'm tired and a little irked tonight. I couldn't run today. Somehow, don't know how, but I hurt my back in between my shoulder blades such that I was up almost all night, and of course, I got called at 5:15 this morning... So, I could barely move all day. I can't bend my head down and move certain ways. It's better than it was. Mariah says that I got it from playing Guitar Hero 3. Today was a perfect day to run. Just a slight mist and 47 degrees. Dammit. I really, really needed to get in 6+ today so I could run 3 tomorrow before my 6x1 mile workout on Saturday. So, body permitting, I'll run 3 miles tomorrow during lunch and try not to haul ass with my fresh legs because that could compromise my objectives for Saturday's workout... I hate getting my easy days and hard days out of sync. I was very tired at work all day today with the lack of sleep. I'll be heading to bed early tonight.
So...... Will Led Zeppelin tour in 2008? Can you say, HELLO??? I would find a way to get a ticket. It'll probably be done via a lottery because I imagine that demand will be pretty high. I sure hope they make it happen. Looking forward to the NFL playoffs this weekend. Hopefully the Colts don't give the game away to the Chargers again. Adam Vinateri should be perfect being indoors and all and not repeat his last effort against the Chargers.
Getting ready to head out to do 12-13 miles (maybe even 15). It's really warm and windy. It's going to be nice to run with just one shirt on. Looks like the Colts are going to go up against Jacksonville if Tennessee beats the Chargers. I think the Colts will have difficulty with both the Chargers and the Jaguars since both teams may be able to run against them. I have a feeling if the Colts meet the Patriots in the AFC Championship (if I have it right), that it may be considered the actual Superbowl. Hmm... But, out the door to run!
Tonight I ran mile repeats w/ Jacki. Just three of them, but I ran them exactly how I wanted to, 6:20,6:12 and 6:11. Perfect for Tuesday's race. It was very controlled. I have a lot of confidence that given the right amount of rest and eating right, I should be able to hold 6:20 for 10 miles. We'll see. Tuesday's weather is supposed to turn really windy and cold though. I got a lot accomplished at work today. I still have to DSL in tonight and take care of some things and kick some stuff off that can run unattended through the night. Hopefully I don't get called tonight. Got called at 3:30 this morning and couldn't get back to bed until about 5. So, it's time to watch the new version of "Hairspray". OH!!! The NE vs. NYG game will be simylcast on CBS and NBC this Saturday, so that will be totally cool. I guess they think that the game is going to have historic implications, so they're going to simulcast it. So, I'm looking forward to watching it. And the Colts are playing Tennessee this weekend. They always give the Colts a run for their money, usually with rushing and special teams scoring.
Tonight we went to Circuit City to pick up some music DVDs with my gift card. I found Nelly Furtado's new live DVD, Neil Young's new one. I was most looking forward to finding Heart's Dreamboat Annie performance on DVD, which they didn't have. Darn it. So, Austin and I were in there for about 45 minutes. So, we spend about 15 minutes in line only to find out that their computers were down and that they couldn't process gift cards. Gee, thanks a lot. There we are, two DVDs, a Coke and Jolly Ranchers, and no cash. So, we had to put everything back and go. It would have been nice if they would have put a sign or something up to indicate that the servers were down... But, I went to FYE at the mall and picked up the Dreamboat Annie DVD. I love the album "Dreamboat Annie". It's one of the most memorable albums from growing up. No woman can sing today like Ann Wilson of Heart. There are some notable singers these days, but nothing compared to Ann Wilson, Pat Benatar and others that I grew up listening to.
S'well. Time for the Corny Collins show.
This week has probably got to be the best training week I've had since before I got hurt. More like the last 10 days. Two solid runs last weekend, a good workout on Tuesday. Excellent workout Saturday and 12+ miles today. 28 miles in the last three days. And I've felt strong every day. My left ankle is a little tender, but it's manageable. Now, this week will be a different story as I've got a race on Saturday (plus, I'm starting on-call tomorrow morning). So, with the way the last 10 days the way they've gone, I really do think I'll be able to assume a training schedule in January to achieve some of the goals I want to for the spring. So, couple of days on the Octane, a gut-check speed workout on Tuesday or Wednesday and a stay-loose three miles on Friday. Now if I can just make sure I get enough sleep this week.
The Colts are really blowing out the Ravens tonight. 44-7 in the third quarter.
OK, Two very strong days of running in a row. Very encouraging. Yesterday, I did a really tough workout with Jacki which consists of running moderate pace up a slight hill, then taking off full speed for one minute when you reach the top of the hill. Each repeat was about 600 meters. We did 7 of those with 600m jog recovery. With warmups, cooldowns, etc. 8.5 miles for the day. Today, I ran a really strong 10 miles at around 6:33 pace in a warm, rainy and windy "60" degrees. I kept getting stronger and stronger as the run progressed. Then the last mile I ran in 6:01 as I watched and raced the cold front coming in!!! The temperature dropped from 60 to 47 within an hour. And now, just a few hours later, it is 32 with a 19 windchill. I have no post-injury symptoms at all. So, tomorrow is an Octane recovery day. Roughly 26 miles for the week. Not really looking forward to going in to work tomorrow. I have stuff that I needed to get done this weekend, but I just couldn't get to any of it... But, the Colts have won once again! Today, they looked like the Colts of two years ago, where they couldn't stop the run and let the other team hang on to the football.
Wow, this week turned out pretty well for running. I got in 28 miles on 4 days of running. I had an excellent workout yesterday, which I am completely sore. Today, we ran 10 miles. Had aches and kinks but generally had pretty good energy levels. I'm finally signed up for the Indy Mini. I've got four key races to help prep for it. December 15th, "The 12Ks of Christmas" 12K race in Carmel, Indiana. February 3rd, the "Groundhog 7" 7 mile race in Carmel, Indiana. March 24th, "Will Power 10K" in Indianapolis, April 1st, "Indianapolis Distance Classic" 15K Race. Got a couple of local 5Ks that I'll jump into as workouts. Today and yesterday the weather was great. Looks like it's going to get real crappy here in the next two days. So, we'll see how this week goes. Looks like the Colts pulled it off today. They really are not a very good team right now. Defensively, they're still doing really well.
Today was a pretty good day at work for a Monday. I got a couple of things accomplished that I needed to, so that is cool. I was able to get in a pretty good 45 minute Octane workout during lunch today. Felt really good. Kept HR around 140 the last 30 minutes. So, tomorrow, it's time for another workout of some sort. This is going to be a busy week. Along with work and running, I've got a board meeting tomorrow evening from 7 to 9, then another meeting for "Trained In Terre Haute" Wednesday evening at 7. Thursday I'm hoping to be able to help out Butch and Myra with prepping the 10K course for this Saturday's race. Then Friday, it's off to Evansville for Kourtney's soccer tournament. The weather is supposed to be really nice. I can't wait until tomorrow's workout. My legs feel really good, and I'm more rested (sleep wise) than I have been in the last 8 or 9 days. Lastnight was the first night all week that I didn't get called in the middle of the night. So, the Colts couldn't quite pull it off Sunday. S'well. I tell you though, the Patriots look unstoppable. If the Patriots elect to play their starters in week 16, I think they've got a chance to go unbeaten. We'll see.
I ended up with a late lunch, but I still have time to eat some Chicken Noodle soup and post real quick. I am feeling a little better, although not 100%. At least the Colts won lastnight. They're doing better at stopping the run. I made no headway on the WVRR newsletter lastnight as I just felt too crappy. Looks like I'm going to lead a stamina workout for Kourtney's soccer team this Thursday. They have three weeks until their tournament down in Evansville, so we've got to try to keep them in peak shape. So, it'll be interesting. I don't have any pain whatsoever today, although I haven't run since Saturday. Legs feel pretty good, I just still don't have any energy. Makes for a really long day at work. There's only so much crappy coffee you can drink. Back to work to make more shiny plastic circles.
