It's been months since I've made a post here. A lot going on. Still checking in, just not posting. Been really busy. Running has been going super. I'm running the best I've run in 10 years. It is so awesome to be able to train and compete at this level injury free. Just gotta be smart with it. Just wrapped up a 60 mile week. I've run over 20 races this year. Probably going to run just one more December 7th. Then it's a visit back to Louisville for the Hangover Classic on New Year's Day. I finished 24th overall this year in 1:03:34. My goal is to go under 59 minutes this go around (I've gone sub one-hour en route to a 1:19:00 half marathon two weeks ago).
Lots of exciting news on the music front for me. Rush's new live DVD is due out November 25th. Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Metric are wrapping up new CDs to be released in early 2009. Bought the new AC/DC album, which is pretty good, and got to see them in concert in Indy.
Work has been crazy, but manageable.
Today's run was completely disgusting. My legs are still really dead. I mean, it's been since Tuesday since I last ran. I tried to run an "easy" three miles during lunch today and really struggled to maintain 7:00 pace. I was pretty pissed when I got back home. Jumped in the shower and headed back to work. Work was a little rough this week. Nothing really pissing me off, but just too much to do. I was up until midnight two nights in a row working, then got called at 3:30 this morning for an hour, and now, I've just got called again. I am so tired... It's a wonder I feel so crappy when I try to run. Now.
This evening was a good evening. Kourtney had her snowball dance tonight. She and her three girlfriends were gorgeous. We got a lot of good pictures of them. So, tonight, Austin went to grandma's while Mariah and I did some more Christmas shopping. We finally found the iceCoaster for Austin, and picked up Hairspray for Kourtney. I found something for myself as well. I can't have it until Christmas though. AC/DC's Plugged In DVD Set and Incubus's new DVD Look Alive (or something like that). Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii must've gotten pushed back again because I haven't seen it anywhere. Then it was Baskin Robbins on the way to Mariah's mom's to get Austin.
It's funny, I played "The Final Countdown" by Europe tonight and Austin was freaking out. It's been used in the commercials for the "Mario and Sonic at the Olympics" for the Wii over the past couple of weeks.
So tomorrow it's some speedwork with Jacki at Rose-Hulman. Hope my legs feel better tomorrow. I downloaded my applications for the "12 Ks of Christmas" in Carmel, December 15th and "The Hangover Classic" 10 Miler in Louisville New Year's Day. I asked my boss if we were going to have to work on December 31st, or January 1st (for database maintenance) and he said he didn't know which day yet, but it didn't really matter. So, I think I'll be able to leave town. It'll be nice to run the Louisville race again, as it's been 11 years since the last time I ran that one. So today's run left me feeling disgusted at first, but we'll see how tomorrow goes.
OK, I've resolved my problem at work. I'm heading to bed. Nahnoo Nahnoo
Today I watched my Stiff Upper Lip AC/DC DVD while I did the Octane. Got in a good 99 minute workout. It was a moderate workout, but I always try to make the last 10 or 15 minutes hard. So, with 15 minutes to go, the DVD was at "Let There Be Rock". HS!! What a song to close out a workout to! I managed to do the last mile in 4:57, the fastest I've ever done on it. Based on my fitness level, I'd probably equate it to a 6 minute mile running. So, I ran three days this week. Unfortunately, being so sore from it made me miss T,W and F's Octane workout. So, although I ran, I lost three days of cardio. This has been a somewhat relaxing weekend. We went to the Fair Friday night, went swimming for about an hour and a half. I'm not looking forward to going into work tomorrow... I don't know if I'm going to try to run tomorrow or not. I ran a hard 3 miles yesterday and with today's Octane workout, I don't know how beat up I'm going to feel. Up to 1863 on Big Brain Academy for the Wii.
The first time I ever heard of AC/DC was when we first moved to Germany in 1977. It was the Dirty Deeds album. I became very familiar with that album, but not with any other AC/DC stuff. A couple of years later, in 1982, shortly after we moved to Italy, my dad operated the local movie theater part time in the evenings/weekends. When he first started, he bought a brand new set of JBL speakers throughout the "Pinatamare" Elementary School Cafeteria (the make-shift movie theater). The first movie that he showed with those new speakers was "Let There Be Rock" from AC/DC. It was the first and last time I ever remember that "theater" being packed, and I still remember how loud it was. I've been a fan ever since. I finally got to see them play live in Indianapolis in 2000. I missed them during the Thunderstruck tour and I vowed that if they ever toured again, I would go see them. It was pretty awesome. I'm hoping that they'll have another go at it. We'll see. I've got "Let There Be Rock" on VHS. Hopefully someday, they'll find the original master tapes and films and cut it to DVD. But, here's "Bad Boy Boogie" from the Bon Scott days. You don't see very much footage from the Bon Scott era, so I'm glad I found this on You Tube:
Been listening to Rush's new Snakes and Arrows today. Third time through. Listening to my friend from work's copy until I get my DVD version in the mail. Overall, it's growing on me. Musically, it reminds me a little of Test For Echo, but instrument wise and mix wise, it sounds very clean, guitars are separated very well and you can hear Neil's cymbals really well. Geddy's bass still sounds a little "muddy" on a couple of songs like on Vapor Trails. Lots of acoustic guitars and Neil's got some interesting sounding crash cymbals that I've never heard him play before. But, I've also been listening to Feist's new album off of her M*space (can we say that here?). Man does it sound good. I can't wait to get it when it comes in on Friday. I also found a live broadcast of her from FM4 that I really like. Not best quality sound, but intimate yet raw. I like the sound of a humming amp, kinda like Angus Young on AC/DC's live shows. And of course tonight after work, before dinner, 31 cent scoops at Baskin Robbins. Two scoops of Chocolate Mint with Hot Fudge Syrup. Wow. Today did an awesome workout on the Octane. Went the farthest I've ever gone in 60 minutes, 11.25 miles. Don't know how that would equate to running. Average HR of 156 w/ the last 30 minutes staying between 160 and 169. However, I do have some inflammation now. We'll see how it feels tomorrow. Going to try to do a couple of small 2-3 minute runs during Austin's soccer practice tomorrow. Getting some great support from my running partners as always. 9 1/2 weeks injured now. Work is hectic this week. BUT!!! We've got two candidates coming in for interviews shortly. Great news. It'll be quite an effort training a new DBA, but hopefully by the end of the summer, whoever it is can stand on their own two feet and provide me a little relief. Blake did awesome on American Idol lastnight. He could release his "Living On A Prayer" cover as a single. 3 days to the Indy Mini! Good luck to everyone. So far the weather doesn't look like it'll be too bad. Super Size Me!
Yep, one week to go before Feist's new Album "The Reminder" comes out. So, I'll be making a trip to Circuit City during my lunch hour next Tuesday. Rush's new album "Snakes And Arrows" also comes out the first, BUT! I preordered it, hah. I pre-ordered the DVD version, which doesn't come out until the 15th, but I should expect it around the 11th. And if anyone cares, AC/DC is supposed to headline the Slane Castle Festival this summer. Hope they shoot a DVD of it. I watched "Let There Be Rock" on my VHS. Damn I wish they would come out with it on DVD. I've heard they don't have the master films. Who knows, Jimmy Page was able to pull something out of his *ss for the Led Zeppelin DVD a couple of years ago. Kourtney's team won their Sunday game 4-1, so they're 4-0-1 now. Octane workout was pretty good today. 60 minutes. I think I strained myself a little bit with the Plank Pose and Downward Dog pose lastnight. So, I'm going to have to cut that out of my core stability excersises. (that looks mispelled). So, I am in pain tonight... Sitting Indian style on the flooor also seems to aggravate it. Someone spilled the beans on Super Paper Mario. Someone in Austin's class got it for their birthday this week. So now he knows. My baby Oak Trees survived the transplant. I had to relocate one of them because two of them were too close together. Now they're separate and thriving. They grow really slow. They're three years old now and they're only 6' tall. My son is now officially a Lego Engineer. Do you need to know Calc and Diff EQ for Lego Engineering? Hmm..
